CSA-Listed: what it means for light poles

Do you have a client who needs CSA-Listed light poles?

You may be wondering who CSA is and what that means for the ordering process.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) International is a group that certifies electrical and mechanical products, and other products that carry a high amount of user risk. CSA tests according to Canadian or U.S. standards, as well as the standards of Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and NSF International.

CSA Marks

The general CSA mark indicates that the light poles have been tested according to North American standards. A class or file number accompanies this logo. You can use it to look up the poles in the CSA database and learn more about them.

Light poles bearing the CSA/US mark have been approved for use only within the U.S. The logo certifies that the poles meet UL standards and the American National Standards for security and performance. The CSA/US mark also verifies that the poles are listed in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Differences Between CSA and UL

The CSA mark is recognized and accepted around the world. If your light poles need to be shipped overseas, choose CSA-Listed.

While Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) can perform tests according to international standards (ISO) and Canadian standards, the UL mark indicates that the product has been certified only in the U.S. So, if your light poles will be staying in North America, UL-Listed may be the better option.

Lyte Poles can provide both CSA and UL Listed light poles. Please indicate which certification you’ll need in the “Options” portion of our Ordering Guide. Note that once light poles have left our facility, we are unable to make them CSA compliant.
